Sirois, Phillips Sweep LEC Women's Cross Country Weekly Awards
Huskies Travel to UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday

GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced on Monday that the University of Southern Maine duo of sophomore Sydney Sirois (Greene, Maine/St. Dominic Academy) and senior Bryanna Phillips (Westbrook, Maine) have swept the weekly women's cross country awards for the period ending September 9.

Sirois was named the Runner of the Week while Phillips, in her first season of collegiate competition, garnered the Rookie of the Week honor.  The LEC  weekly honors were the first for both athletes.  Sirois is the first USM runner to bring home LEC Runner of the Week honors since Jasmine Boyle won the award in back-to-back weeks in 2016.  Phillips is the USM's first Rookie of the Week recipient since Hannah Damron in 2012.

Sirois paced the field at the Endicott College Cross Country Invitational to take the top spot on the podium and lead the Huskies to a second-place finish in the team standings.  She covered the 3.1-mile Bradley Palmer State Park (Hamilton, Mass.) course in a time of 19 minutes, 39 seconds to finish 15 seconds ahead of the runner-up competitor.

Phillips took the third spot crossing the finish line in 20:00.

The Huskies are back in action next Saturday (September 15) when they travel the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Invitational.
