Huskies Compete This Weekend at Bates Multi-Event on Friday
Bowdoin Invitational on Saturday
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly women's track and field awards this afternoon (Monday, January 13) with the University of Southern Maine collecting two honors.
Junior Madison Clowes (Waterville, Maine) was selected as the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, and the Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay combination of sophomores Mykayla Hoggard (Bangor, Maine), Taylor Chamberlain (Lewiston, Maine) and Emily Colby (Lunenburg, Vt./Lyndon Institute), and senior Adela Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine), was picked as the Relay of Week.
Competing at the Reggie Poyau Invitational held at Brandeis University this past Saturday, Clowes continued her strong start to her track career with a third-place finish in the 20-lb. weight throw with her best throw of 12.57 meters (41' 3"). She also threw a personal best in the shot put of 9.55 meters (31' 4").
The Huskies' 4 x 400-meter relay finished second with a time of 4:17.54, the quickest time in the conference to date this season.
Southern Maine amassed 69 points to finish third behind Assumption College and host Brandeis. Assumption won the meet with 147 points. Brandeis took the runner-up spot with 97. Rounding out the top five teams were Merrimack College with 63 points and Worcester State University with 37.
The Huskies are back in action this weekend with three athletes competing in the pentathlon on Friday at the Bates College Multi-Event meet, and the remainder of the team competing on Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.
