GORHAM, Maine – Four different players scored as the Babson College Beavers rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men's soccer game Tuesday afternoon at Hannaford Field.
With the win, Babson earns its second straight victory to improve to 2-0 overall. Southern Maine dips to 0-2-1 with the loss.
Senior Youcef Ziad (Holbrook, Mass.) had a goal and an assists, netting the equalizer in the 29th minute, and assisting on freshman Ryan Grund's (Princeton Junction, N.J./West Windsor) go-ahead goal in the 48th. Sophomore Mitchell Collins (Burlington, Mass./St. John's Prep) and junior Andrew Josephs (Kingston, Jamaica/Milton Academy) rounded out the scoring for the Beavers in the 60th and 81st minute.
Southern Maine took an early lead in the contest in the 7th minute when junior Joseph Kalilwa (Lewiston, Maine) scored his first goal of the 2019 season. Kalilwa took a well-struck direct kick placing the ball in the upper left corner of the goal.
Babson senior Austin Mankouski (Suffield, Conn.) made three saves to earn the win in net. Southern Maine sophomore Cameron Atherton (New Milford, Conn.) also turned back three shots in the loss.
Up next, Southern Maine travels to Husson University on Saturday (2:00 pm) for a non-conference game.
