GORHAM, Maine – Sophomore guard Jacobe Thomas (Houston, Texas/Davis) of the University of Southern Maine Huskies' men's basketball team has been selected as this week's Little East Conference Player of the Week.
Twice earning honor roll mentions from the Maine Men's Basketball Coaches' and Writers' Association (MMBCWA), it is the first weekly citation of the high-scoring guard's career at Southern Maine. Thomas helped Southern Maine to a 1-1 week in non-league action, including a 98-91 come-from-behind win over St. Joseph's College (Maine). Thomas averaged 36.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocked shots per game for the Huskies, shooting a remarkable 58.3 percent (28-for-48) from the field.
In USM's win over St. Joseph's College, Thomas was 15-for-26 (57.7%) from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line to overcome a double-digit second half deficit and earn the win, scoring a game, season and career high 38 points. Thomas scored 21 of his 38 points in the second half, and cemented himself in the top 10 of single-game scoring records at Southern Maine.
For the season, Thomas leads Southern Maine in scoring at 24.0 point per game. He is shooting 51.2 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from the three-point line and 66.9 percent from the free throw line. The 6-3 guard is adding 5.9 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.0 blocked shots per game. He is third in the Little East in scoring.
Southern Maine travels to UMass Boston on Wednesday (7:30 pm) in a Little East Conference game.
