BOSTON –  Junior guard Alex Kee (Bath, Maine/Morse) scored 18 points and senior forward Jeremy Jackson (Laplace, La./Independence) added 14 points as the University of Southern Maine Huskies defeated the Wentworth Institute of Technology Leopards 71-60 in a non-conference men's basketball game Thursday night at Tansey Gymnasium in Boston.

         With the win Southern Maine improves to 11-13.  Suffering its second straight loss, Wentworth drops to 15-9. 

         Kee led all scorers with 18 points on a 7-for-11 mark from the field.  Jackson added 14 points on 6-for-10 shooting and added a team-high five rebounds.  Sophomore guard Brandon Tomah (Princeton, Maine/Calais) tossed in eight points and junior guard Brian Alexander (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast) chipped in with seven points.

         Ahead by two, 7-5, at the 18-minute mark of the first half, Southern Maine sprinted to a 15-point lead on the heels of a 14-1 run over a seven minute stretch to take a commanding 21-6 lead with 10:56 on clock. The Huskies' Kee scored eight of his 16 first half points to spur the Huskies' pivotal run.

         The Huskies shot 62 percent (16-for-26) from the field in the first half and held a solid 37-19 lead at the break.  Kee was 6-for-9 from the field for the Huskies in the half, while Jackson and sophomore guard Conor Sullivan (Scarborough, Maine) chipped in with six and five points each.

         In the second half, the Huskies continued to pour on the points and grabbed a 23-point, 49-26, lead in the opening five minutes.  Southern Maine opened the half on a 12-5 run receiving scoring contributions from Kee, Jackson, Alexander and Tomah. 

         A traditional three-point play from Jackson midway through the second gave the Huskies a 25-point advantage, 55-30, with 11:52 to play and the Huskies continued to hold a comfortable advantage over the Leopards until late in the game.  Trailing 66-42 with 3:34 to play, WIT outscored USM 18-5 in the final moments of the game for the 71-60 final. 

         Senior guard Adam Dombrowski (Dunstable, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) and junior Corey Therriault (Auburn, Maine/Edward Little) led WIT with 11 points each. 

         Southern Maine finished the game shooting an outstanding 58.7 percent (27-for-46) from the floor.  WIT shot 35.8 percent (24-for-67).

         Southern Maine plays its final game of the season on Saturday (3:00 p.m.) when it travels to UMass Dartmouth.  Wentworth hosts Curry College on Saturday (3:00 p.m.).
