Now in his 20th season with the University of Southern Maine Huskies golf team, Reggie Grant joined the USM athletics department in the summer of 2000. A 1971 graduate of Gorham State College, Grant has had a long-time affiliation with USM.
During his tenure as the Huskies’ golf head coach, Grant has mentored an NEIGA Division III individual champion (JJ Frost in 2003), two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Player of the Year (Josh Hogan in 2012 and Tristan Dundas in 2019), three GNAC Rookie of the Year, and 14 All-GNAC performances. The Huskies won their first GNAC team title this season, and have had three runner-up finishes in the 13-year history of the event.
Grant’s 2004 squad was first among Division III schools at the NEIGA New England Championships. The Huskies have won two State titles (2012 and 2003) in addition to five runner-up finishes, and had two individual State champions under Grant’s direction.
Now retired after serving as a guidance counselor at Portland High School, Grant was also the high school golf coach at Westbrook High School before becoming USM’s head coach. Grant was a long-time, well-known collegiate basketball official in the State of Maine.
