    A four-year member of the Huskies’ men’s cross country, indoor track and outdoor track teams, Curtis Wheeler, Class of 2008, had a distinguished career for all three teams earning numerous awards and individual championship titles.  A four-time recipient of the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic honor as a member of the cross country team, Wheeler also earned William B. Wise Scholar-Athlete honors throughout his career. 

In addition to his All-Little East Conference and All-New England team honors for cross country, Wheeler qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championship in 2007.  During that same season, Wheeler was in the individual Maine State Intercollegiate Champion and the LEC Champion.  He earned the title of LEC Runner of the Year. During his indoor career, Wheeler earned four individual titles, set the USM records in the 5000 and 3000 meter races, and earned provisional NCAA qualifying times in the one-mile and 5000-meter run in 2008.  Over the course of his outdoor track career, Wheeler continued to excel, and helped the Huskies win the 2008 LEC team championship.  During that same season, Wheeler individually claimed championships at the LEC’s in the 1500-meter run, and at the Division III New England Championship Wheeler won the 5000-meter run.  USM’s outdoor record holder in the 5000 and 10000 meter, Wheeler also recorded the second fastest 10000 meter time in Maine College history.  

Wheeler earned his degree in Environmental Safety and Health from USM in 2008, graduating cum laude.  He is presently the Continuous Improvement/Lean Manager at Columbia Forest Products.  Still active in the running community, Wheeler was named the 2009 Maine Co-Runner of the Year by New England Runner Magazine, Wheeler participates in charity races and is a member of the Aroostook Musterds Running Club.
