Ingram, Kendall Double Winners for the Huskies

            BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Sparked by double victories from sophomore jumper Rachel Ingram (Winthrop, Maine) and freshman sprinter Heather Kendall (Lewiston, Mass.), the University of Southern Maine women's track and field team won the Bowdoin College Invitational at Magee-Samuelson Track on Saturday

            The Huskies took the top spot among the six teams competing scoring 199 points.  Host Bowdoin was runner-up with 164, followed by Husson University with 80, Colby College with 56, the University of Maine at Farmington with 39 and St. Joseph's College with seven points.

            Kendall swept the 100 and 200-meter events posting times of 12.81 and 26.40 seconds respectively.  Ingram won the long jump with a leap of 4.97 meters (16-3 ¾) and the triple jump with a mark of 10.55 meters (34-7 ½).

            Other event winners for the Huskies included senior Hannah Damron (Windham, Maine) who took the 1500 meters with her time of 4:50.39, junior Neka Dias (San Antonio, Texas) took the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.48, junior Molly Gibeault (Brooklyn, Conn./Woodstock Academy) won the pole vault clearing 3.51 meters (11-6 ¼), and senior Sabrina Sodders (Alstead, N.H./Fall Mountain) captured the shot put with a throw of 11.72 meters (38-5 ½).

            Adding runner-up finishes to the Huskies point total were Damron in the 800 meters with her time of 2:20.39, freshmen Haley Bantz (East Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) in the 400 meters with a time of 1:03.54, Nicole Nicholls (Waldoboro, Maine/Medomak Valley) in the high jump clearing 1.50 meters (4-11) and Penny Maimone (Stoneham, Mass.) with a height of 2.90 meters (9-6 ¼) in the pole vault, and junior Melissa Bell (Portland, Maine/Deering) in the discus with a throw of 35.42 meters (116-2).  The Huskies 4 x 100 and 4 x 400-meter relays also took second-place finishes with times of 50.86 and 4:21.63 respectively.

            Taking third-place finishes included Dias in the 400-meter hurdles with her time of 1:14.70, senior Deonna DaSilva (East Providence, R.I.) in the 100-meter dash with her time of 13.17 seconds, senior Brooke Davis (Clarendon, Vt./Mill River Union) in the 800 with a time of 2:26.40, junior Jasmine Boyle (Brunswick, Maine) in the 1500 crossing the line in 4:54.93, sophomore Cailley Ledue (Scarborough, Maine) in the pole vault clearing 2.90 meters (9-6 ¼), and junior Briana Pina (Cumberland, R.I.) in the hammer throw with a mark of 38.79 meters (127-3).

            The Huskies will travel next Saturday to the Panther Spring Invitational at Middlebury College.
