Dostie Named LEC Track Athlete of the Year

GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its annual end-of-the-season awards today with University of Southern Maine senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine) headlining the women's awards as she was selected by the coaches as the women's Track Athlete of the Year when it released.

In addition to Dostie's individual award, the University of Southern Maine women's coaching staff, led by veteran head coach George Towle, was voted the Coaching Staff of the Year.  Other members of the Huskies staff are Mike Drummey, Jim Giroux and Becky O'Brien.  The staff guided the Huskies to a sweep of the Little East Conference and New England Alliance titles, and a seventh-place finish at the New England Division III Championships.  The top ten finish at the New England Division III meet was the seventh in program history, and the first since 2012.

At the LEC and New England Alliance Championships, Dostie swept the LEC titles in the 100 and 400-meter hurdles for the third straight year, including setting a meet record in the 100 hurdles with her time of 14.67 seconds, and ran the anchor leg for the Huskies' winning 4 x 100-meter relay.  She also won the high jump, and had a third-place finish in the long jump.  In the Alliance meet, Dostie won her first 100-meter hurdles title setting the meet record, and brought home her third consecutive 400 hurdles title.  She was named the LEC Track Athlete of the Week following her performance at the LEC Championships.

During the outdoor campaign, Dostie also earned Division III All-New England and NEICAAA All-New England honors in the 400 meters, and won the 400-meters at the ECAC Division III Championships.  At the N.E. Division III meet, she finished third in the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.38), and followed that performance up a week later with a fifth-place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:02.81) at the NEICAAA meet.  At the ECAC meet, Dostie won the 400 hurdles (1:00.96) and was third in the 100-meter hurdles (14.91).

This past weekend at the NCAA Division III Outdoor National Championships, Dostie smashed the school record in the 400 hurdles (1:00.13) en route to a runner-up finish.

The Track Athlete of the Year award is the fourth major LEC award for Dostie during the 2014-15 academic year.  During the indoor track and field season, she pulled off the unprecedented double of being named the Track Athlete of the Year and the Field Athlete of the Year.  In the fall field hockey season she was voted the Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight year.
