            GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly awards for women's outdoor track and field on Monday, and two members of the University of Southern Maine team were recognized for their performances at the NEICAAA New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.

            Junior Nicole Kirk (Scarborough, Maine) was named the Track Athlete of the Week for the second straight week, and sophomore Ashley Belanger (Biddeford, Maine) was picked as the Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in her career outdoors.

            Kirk set two school records in the sprints and ran the opening leg for the Huskies All-New England 4 x 400-meter relay.  During the trials for 100 and 200 meters on Friday, Kirk eclipsed her own record in the 100 with her time of 12.34 seconds, then came back later to set a new standard in the 200 meters with her time of 25.03 seconds.  Kirk shaved seven one-hundredths of a second off he previous mark in the 100.  She broke the previous record of 25.18 set by Hannah Wiley in 2012.  Kirk also earned All-New England honors when she finished seventh in the final on Saturday with a time of 25.19 seconds.

            In the 4 x 400 relay on Saturday, Kirk ran an opening split of 56.9 seconds to propel the Huskies to an eighth-place finish with a combined time of 3:53.56.

            Belanger extended her shot put school record on Saturday with her throw of 12.92 meters (42-4 ¾) to finish seventh overall and earn All-New England honors.  Belanger surpassed her previous mark by more than 10 inches.

            Paced by Kirk and Belanger, the Huskies finished with nine points to tie for 24th place among the 41 teams the scored in the meet.

            The Huskies close out the 2015 regular season schedule this Thursday and Friday at the ECAC Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Springfield College.
