4x100-meter Relay Sets School Record
BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Senior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and junior Nicole Kirk (Scarborough, Maine) led the University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track and field team to a third-place finish among the eight teams competing at the annual Aloha Relays held Friday and Saturday at Bowdoin College.
Host Bowdoin won the event with 145 points. Bates College was second with 134 points, followed by Southern Maine with 120 and Colby with 96.
Dostie had three top-three individual finishes while Kirk had a pair of top-two results. The pair also combined with sophomore Liz O'Neal (Brunswick, Maine/Mt. Ararat) and junior Deonna DaSilva (East Providence, R.I.) to set the school record en route to winning the 4 x 100-meter relay.
Dostie won the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.94 seconds, placed second to Kirk in the 200 meters after crossing the finish line in 26.23 seconds, and finished third in the high jump by clearing 1.56 meters (5-1 ¼). Kirk was second in a photo finish in the 100 meters with her time of 12.82 seconds, and won the 200 meters with a time of 26.05.
The 4x100 relay quartet combined for a time of 49.17 seconds to surpass the previous record time of 49.43 set in May 2010. O'Neal also had a third-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (16.37).
Sophomore Ashley Belanger (Biddeford, Maine) led a 1-2 finish by the Huskies in the shot put with her mark of 12.43 meters (40-9 ½). Junior Sabrina Sodders (Alstead, N.H./Fall Mountain) was runner-up with her throw of 12.06 meters (39-7).
Sophomore Molly Gibeault (Brooklyn, Conn./Woodstock Academy) took the second spot in the pole vault clearing 3.20 meters (10-6). Freshman Cailley Ledue (Scarborough, Maine) was fifth after clearing 2.75 meters (9-0 ¼).
Junior Hannah Damron (Windham, Maine) posted a personal best time in the 1500 meters, crossing the line in 4:49.55 to finish third. Senior Tayla Robbins (Raymond, Maine/Gray-New Gloucester) finished third in the 10,000 meters with her time of 43:21.34. The 4 x 400-meter relay was third with its time of 4:09.40.
Sophomore Briana Pina (Cumberland, R.I.) set a personal best in the hammer throw with her mark of 41.75 meters (137-0) to finish fourth. Senior Emily Panciera (Monson, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) finished fourth in the 400 meters with a time 1:01.02.
The Huskies will be in action next weekend at the annual Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships being held at Fitchburg (Mass.) State University.
