Damron Picked as LEC Rookie Track Athlete of the Week

            GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly award winners on Monday and University of Southern Maine sophomore Hannah Damron (Windham, Maine) was picked as the Rookie Track Athlete of the Week for women's track and field.  This is the second occasion this spring that Damron has been the recipient of the weekly honor.

            Competing on Sunday at the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships held at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Damron was a double winner taking the top spot in the 800 and 1500 meters.  Damron won the 800-meter title with her time of two minutes, 18.76 seconds.  She took the 1500-meter crown with her career-best time of 4:52.48.

            In addition to her prowess on the track, Damron scored in the triple jump with her mark of 10.17 meters (33-4 ½).

            The Huskies won their 15th consecutive LEC title scoring 185.50 points to easily outdistance runner-up Keene State College.  USM won the Alliance title for the 13th time in 15 years scoring 138.50 points.

            Southern Maine will send Damron and other qualified athletes to the New England Division III Championships at Springfield College this Friday and Saturday.
