GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced its weekly women's outdoor track and field awards Monday afternoon selecting junior Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and freshman Liz O'Neal (Topsham, Maine/Mt. Ararat) of the University of Southern Maine for weekly recognition. Dostie was picked as the Track Athlete of the Week and O'Neal was the recipient of the Rookie Track Athlete of the Week.
This is the first weekly honor of the outdoor season for Dostie and O'Neal. O'Neal is the second USM rookie competitor to take the Rookie of the Week honor this spring.
Competing at the annual Aloha Relays held at Bowdoin College, Dostie won the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. Dostie took the top spot on the podium in the 100-meter hurdles with her winning time of 15.30 seconds. She came back later to take the 400 hurdles in a time of 1:06.01. Dostie also scored in two field events.
O'Neal supported Dostie in both events finishing fourth in the 100 hurdles with her time of 16.90, and eighth in the 400 hurdles crossing the line in 1:11.92. O'Neal also ran the second leg for the Huskies 4 x 100-meter relay that posted a fourth-place finish with its time of 51.11.
The Huskies tallied 89.50 points to place fourth behind meet winner Bowdoin, Colby College and Bates College. Bowdoin edged Colby, 163-159.50, for the top spot with Bates scoring 152.
The Aloha Relays meet was the final tune-up for the Huskies before this Saturday's Little East Conference and New England Alliance Championships being held at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
