Damron, Shannon Qualify for N.E. Division III Championships

Damron, Shannon Qualify for NE D3 Championships

            ORLANDO, Fla. -- University of Southern Maine sophomores Hannah Damron (Windham, Maine) and Molly Shannon (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) met qualifying standards for the New England Division III Championships this weekend while competing at the University of Central Florida Invitational on Saturday.  The event was a non team-scoring meet.

            Damron ran her way into the 800-meter field for the New England D3 meet with a fifth-place finish in a time of two minutes, 19.23 seconds.  Shannon met the standard in the shot put with her 11th-place mark of 11.05 meters (36-3).

            Sophomore Sabrina Sodders (Alstead, N.H./Fall Mountain) finished 10th in the shot put with her throw of 11.08 meters (36-4 ¼).  Sodders met the qualifying standard for the New England D3 meet last weekend at Bridgewater State University.

            Freshman Melissa Bell (Portland, Maine/Deering) just missed the New England D3 meet qualifying standard in the discus with her eighth-place throw of 33.42 meters (109-8).

            On the track, junior Anna Whitaker (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) posted a 10th-place result in the 400 meters with her time of 1:02.85.

            Southern Maine, currently on spring break, will train in Florida this week and compete next Friday and Saturday at the University of Florida Relays and the Embry-Riddle University Spike's Classic.
