GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine senior Molly Carl (York, Maine) is among the fourteen women's track and field/cross country student-athletes named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District ® One first team for NCAA Division III schools as selected by the members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
To be nominated by their institution's sports information director, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.00 scale) and be of sophomore standing academically and athletically at the nominating institution. Carl had another strong year for the Huskies. In the fall cross country season, she won the Little East Conference individual title and was named the LEC Runner of the Year. She also successfully defended her individual title at the State of Maine Championship. At the NCAA New England Regional Championship, Carl finished sixth overall to earn USTFCCCA All-New England Region honors and a return trip to the NCAA Division III National Championship. In February, Carl was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team for the second straight year.
After being sidelined with an injury during the winter indoor season, Carl came back strong in the spring outdoor season winning the LEC title at 5,000 meters and placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Carl also earned Division III All-New England honors in the steeplechase.
A geography/anthropology major, Carl has a 3.84 cumulative GPA.
First team Academic All-District ® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America ® Team ballot where first-, second- and third-team Academic All-America ® honorees will be selected.
