Dostie Paces USM at George Davis Invitational
LOWELL, Mass. -- Sophomore Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) qualified for the New England Division III Championships in three events to highlight the University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track and field team's performance Saturday at the George Davis Invitational held at the Cushing Field Complex on the campus of the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The meet was a non-team scoring event.
Dostie qualified for the N.E. Division III meet in the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and the triple jump. Dostie finished first among the 24 competitors in the 100-meter hurdles with her time of 15.49 seconds. She was third in the 400 hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:04.24, and eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.55 meters (34-7 ½). Dostie's times in the 100 and 400 hurdles also qualified her for the NEIcAAA New England Championships and the ECAC Division III Championships in May.
Freshman Nicole Kirk (Scarborough, Maine) posted a seventh-place result in the 200 meters with her time of 26.67. Kirk also had a top ten finish in the 100 meters crossing to the line in 13.17 seconds to place ninth among the 54 competitors.
Senior Caitlin Miller (York, Maine) posted a fifth-place finish in the 5,000 meters with a career best time of 19:04.16. Junior Morgan Beede (Augusta, Maine/Cony) had a strong run in the 3,000 meters finishing 12th with her time of 10:46.88. Senior Molly Carl (York, Maine) broke the 11-minute barrier with a time of 10:55.73.
Sophomore Emily Panciera (Monson, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) was 13th in the 400 meters with her time of 1:02.99.
In the field events, freshman Sabrina Sodders (Alstead, N.H./Fall Mountain) placed eighth in the discus with a mark of 32.21 meters (105-8) and 13th in the shot put with a throw of 10.41 meters (34-2). Sophomore Allie O'Brien (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) took sixth place in the pole vault by clearing 2.75 meters (9-0 ¼).
The Huskies are back in action next Saturday (April 13) when they compete at the M.I.T. Invitational.
