GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday that University of Southern Maine freshman Hannah Wiley (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy) has been selected the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week for her performance last week at the ECAC Division III Championships held at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.
The weekly honor is the sixth of the spring season for Wiley. She swept the weekly rookie honors three times (April 9, April 16 and April 30), and received the rookie field accolade the last three weeks.
At the ECAC championships, Wiley brought home a sixth-place finish in the long jump with her mark of 5.29 meters (17-4 1/4). She also competed on the track in the 200 meters, finishing fifth with a school record time of 25.18 seconds breaking the previous record of 25.65 set by Emily Artesani in May 2008. Wiley earned All-ECAC honors in both events.
Helped by Wiley's seven points, the Huskies totaled 17 points to finish 18th among the 55 scoring teams participating in the meet.
Wiley and teammates Molly Carl (York, Maine) and Bethany Dumas (Augusta, Maine/Cony) are headed to Claremont, Calif., to compete in the 2012 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships being hosted at Claremont McKenna-Harvey Mudd-Scripps Colleges. Wiley will compete in the long jump and the 400-meter hurdles. Carl, a junior, will race in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Dumas, a senior, will compete in the javelin. Competition begins Thursday.
