            WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Led by freshman sensation Hannah Wiley (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy), the University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track and field team swept the Little East Conference and New England Alliance Outdoor Track and Field Championships Saturday at the annual title meet hosted at Westfield State University.

            The Huskies captured the LEC crown for the 13th consecutive year compiling 214 points to easily outdistance runner-up, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 214-124.  The Huskies won their third straight Alliance crown, and 12th in the last 13 years, with 170 points.  Worcester State University took second with 150.50 points, followed by host Westfield State with 106 and Keene State College with 81.

            Wiley set four school records and won three events, placed second in another, and fourth in a fifth event to score 42 points in the Alliance scoring.  She set school records en route to winning the 400-meter hurdles (1:02.66) and the triple jump (11.40 meters/37-5).  She also took first in the long jump (5.40 meters/17-8 3/4).  Wiley also set school records in 100-meter hurdles (15.17) to place second, and the 100 meters (12.51) to finish fourth.

            Other USM winners included junior Caitlin Miller (Pepperell, Mass./North Middlesex) with a personal best time in the 10,000 meters (41.57.19), junior Molly Carl (York, Maine) in the 1500 meters (4:42.78), senior Bethany Dumas (Augusta, Maine/Cony) in the pole vault (3.05 meters/10-0) and senior Hannah Patterson (Londonderry, N.H.) in the discus (38.57 meters/126-6).

            Junior Katherine McWilliams (Nashville, Tenn./Middle College HS) gave the Huskies a one-two finish in the 10,000 taking second (41:57.19) with a personal best.  Carl added a second-place finish in the 800 meters (2:19.10).  Junior Christina Massey (Winslow, Maine) took second in the long jump (5.27 meters/17-3 1/2), and Jennifer Durham (Doylestown, Penn./Central Bucks West) took third the shot put (11.46 meters/37-7 1/4).  Durham's mark in the shot was a personal best.

            Dumas had a personal best time in the 100-meter hurdles (15.60) to finish third, and was fifth in the 400-meter hurdles (1:07.27).  She also finished third in the javelin (35.67 meters/117-4).  Massey earned third-place results in the 400 meters (59.71) and the high jump (1.58 meters/5-2 1/4) with personal bests in both events.  Patterson picked up a third-place result in the hammer throw (45.51 meters/149-4).

            Sophomore Morgan Beede (Augusta, Maine/Cony) scored valuable points taking fourth in the 5,000 meters (18:34.47) and fifth in the 1500 meters (4:55.68) with a personal best time.

            USM athletes qualified will compete next weekend in the New England Division III Championships meet being held at M.I.T.
