Massey and Wiley Receive LEC Weekly Honors
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday afternoon that two members of the University of Southern Maine women's outdoor track and field team, junior Christina Massey (Winslow, Maine) and freshman Hannah Wiley (Arundel, Maine/Thornton Academy), have been selected for weekly recognition following their performances this weekend at the George Davis Invitational held at the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
At the Davis Invitational, Massey equaled the previous school record in the long jump with her mark of 5.43 meters (17-9¾) to finish 10th. That mark qualifies Massey for the New England Division III Championships, the NEIcAAA New England Championships, and the ECAC Division III Championships next month.
Competing in her first outdoor meet of the spring season, Wiley eclipsed the school record in the 100-meter dash crossing the finish line in 12.60 seconds to place seventh. Wiley broke the previous record of 12.63 seconds set by Sarah Hale in May 2010. Wiley's time qualified her for the New England Division III, NEIcAAA New England and ECAC Division III Championships meets.
Wiley smashed the previous long jump record of 5.43 meters (17-9¾) established by Kim Brewer in May 2005, and equaled by Massey at the Davis Invitational, with her second-place leap of 5.67 meters (18-7¼). Her jump qualified her for the New England Division III, NEIcAAA New England and ECAC Division III Championships.
On the latest NCAA Division III performance list, Wiley is ranked ninth and Massey 27th nationally in Division III in the long jump.
The Huskies will travel to the Colby College Invitational this Saturday.
