Kand Named USM Women's Indoor Track & Field Captain

GORHAM, Maine -- University of Southern Maine veteran women's track and field head coach George Towle announced recently that senior Tiia Kand (Abbot, Maine/Piscataquis) has been named captain for the upcoming 2017-18 indoor season that gets underway this Saturday (12:00 p.m.) when the Huskies host the USM Open I at the Costello Sports Complex.

Kand is a four-year member of the team competing in the sprints and jumping events.  Kand competed in seven meets during the indoor season last year, enjoying her best success in the high jump.  She placed ninth in the high jump (career-best 1.47m/4-9 ¾) at the State of Maine Championships, took third in the high jump (1.45m/4-9) at the Reggie Poyau Invitational at Brandeis, and finished runner-up in the high jump (1.40m/4-7) at the season-opening USM Open I.
