Kalilwa scored her first goal of the game and her third goal of the season in the 24th minute with an unassisted strike to put the Huskies ahead of FSU 1-0. The one-goal advantage stood for the Huskies through the half.
In the second half, the Falcons used one of its eight second-half corner kicks to score the equalizer. Junior Siobhan O'Connell (Abington, Mass./Cardinal Spellman) notched her second goal of the season in the 51st minute completing an assist from freshman Micalea Goldenberg (Douglas, Mass.). FSU continued to pressure the Huskies in the second stanza, holding a 12-3 advantage in shots and an 8-0 lead in the corner kicks, but Kalilwa was able to secure the Southern Maine win scoring her second unassisted goal of the game in the 86th minute for the 2-1 USM victory.
Sophomore goalkeeper Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) earned the win in net, making six saves. FSU sophomore Shelby Gale (Rockport, Mass.) made four saves in the loss. FSU led the Huskies in shots 20-10 and 8-2 in corners.
After three games on the road, Southern Maine returns to Gorham, Maine and will host Eastern Connecticut State on Saturday (2:30 p.m.) in a Little East Conference game. Fitchburg State returns to MASCAC action on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) at MCLA.
