Bates Defeats Southern Maine 8-0
LEWISTON, Maine – Seven different players scored a goal as the Bates College Bobcats defeated the University of Southern Maine Huskies 8-0 in a non-conference women's soccer game Sunday afternoon.

With the win, Bates College improves to 2-1 on the season.   Playing in its fourth consecutive road game to open the 2016 season, the loss evens out the Huskies' record to 2-2 overall. 

Freshman Riley Turcotte (Middletown, R.I.) scored two goals, while senior Erin Shea (Marshfield, Mass.) had a pair of assists to lead the Bobcats.  Bates scored 3-0 goals in the opening half, taking a 2-0 lead in the first 10 minutes of the game to cruise to the win. Bates finished the game with a 34-6 advantage in shots and a 10-1 edge in corner kicks.

Southern Maine sophomore Taylor Canastra (Fairhaven, Mass.) made a career-high 10 saves in the loss.  Bates juniors Sarah McCarthy (Rockville Centre, N.Y./South Side) and Allegra Sacco (Medway, Mass./Holliston) split time in goal, each playing 45 minutes and making two saves.  McCarthy earned the win.

Southern Maine hosts Salem State on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) in its first home game of the 2016 season.  Bates travels to Bowdoin on Tuesday (4:30 p.m.).
