Husson Takes Down Southern Maine 3-1

BANGOR, Maine  – Sophomore Leah Hibbad (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored a goal in each half and added an assist to lead the Husson University Eagles to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference women's soccer game Wednesday evening.

         Earning its second straight win, Husson improves to 8-9-1 overall.  Southern Maine falls to 3-13 with its loss.

         Hibbad put her team up 1-0 in the ninth minute scoring her ninth goal of the season off of an assist from senior Hannah Clough (Mount Vernon, Maine/Maranacook).  Clough doubled the Eagles' advantage two minutes later this time receiving an assist from Hibbad for a 2-0 Husson lead, which they would take into the half.

         Continuing a strong offensive performance, Hibbad notched her 10th goal of the season in the 65th minute to extend the Eagles lead to 3-0.  The Huskies broke up the shut out bid in the 84th minute.  Sophomore Ariana Davidson (Windham, Maine) scorded her third goal of the season finishing an assist from junior Analies Ross-Dyjak (Orono, Maine) on a set piece header off of a free kick.

         Kayla Gordon earned the win for Husson playing 80:41 minutes and making one save.  Jordyn Hopkins closed out the final 9:19 for the Eagles allowing one goal. USM senior Marissa Temple (Grafton, Mass.) made 12 saves.

         Southern Maine closes out the season on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) hosting Little East Conference opponent Rhode Island College.  Husson travels to Maine Maritime on Saturday (4:30 p.m.) in the quarterfinal of the North Atlantic Conference tournament.
