Southern Maine Falls to Saint Joseph's 1-0

            STANDISH, Maine -- Freshman Desiree Parent (Westborough, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match in the 74th minute to give the Saint Joseph's College Monks a 1-0, non-conference victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies Wednesday afternoon at Westerly Way Field.

            With the win, the Monks finished the regular season with a 15-3-0 overall record.  The Huskies, who still have one regular-season match remaining, slipped to 5-12-1 overall.

            Parent was on the end of pass from senior Ashley Beaulieu (Durham, Maine) to lift a shot over USM senior goalkeeper Katie Cobb (Lewiston, Maine) for her fifth goal of the season.

            Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Jaci Lorenzen (Windham, Maine) made seven saves to earn her ninth shutout of the season. Cobb also registered seven saves.

            The Monks finished the match with a 17-12 edge in shots and took all five corner kicks.

            Southern Maine hits the road again on Saturday (1:00 p.m.) to play its regular season finale at Little East Conference foe Keene State College.  Third-seeded Saint Joseph's hosts sixth-seeded Suffolk University in a first-round playoff game of the GNAC (Great Northeast Athletic Conference) Tournament on Saturday (2:30 p.m.).
