GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced today that two University of Southern Maine women's soccer players, senior goalkeeper Katie Cobb (Lewiston, Maine) and senior forward Jordan Grant (Concord, N.H.), are among the conference's first set of recipients for weekly honors.
Cobb was selected as the Goalkeeper of the Week, and Grant was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week. This is the first weekly award for each player.
Cobb backstopped Southern Maine to its best start (3-1) since 2008, posting a 0.56 goals against average with a 90.9 save percentage. She earned her second career shutout as the Huskies blanked Maritime (N.Y.) in their season-opener, and shared a shutout against Maine Maritime this past Saturday at the Terrier Women's Soccer Classic. Cobb has made 20 saves on the season, including nine stops in a 1-0 overtime loss to Gordon College.
The Huskies leading scorer through the first four games, Grant has five goals, including two game-winning tallies, and an assist for 11 points. She had the game-winning goal in the Huskies' season-opening 3-0 win against SUNY Maritime, and two goals in each game at the Terrier Women's Soccer Classic this past weekend. A former member of the Huskies women's basketball program, Grant is playing soccer for the first time since high school.
Southern Maine is back in action tomorrow afternoon (4:00 p.m.) when it entertains Bates College at Hannaford Field.
