SCHEDULE CHANGES: Women's Soccer and Field Hockey Games Moved To Thursday
GORHAM, Maine  –  Due to the effects of Hurricane Sandy the schedules for both the Little East Conference women's soccer and field hockey championships have been rearranged.

            The University of Southern Maine Huskies field hockey team, which earned the seventh seed for the 2012 Little East Conference field hockey championship tournament, will travel to Bridgewater, Mass. and take one second-seeded Bridgewater State University Bears on Thursday, November 1 at 6:00 p.m.

            The University of Southern Maine Huskies' women's soccer team, the sixth seed in the upcoming LEC tournament, will travel to third-seeded Western Connecticut State University, on Thursday, November 1 at 6 p.m.

Field Hockey

            Bridgewater State concluded its regular season with a 2-0 win over Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday.  The Bears earned the second seed in the 2012 LEC tourney with a 10-1 mark in conference action and a 16-2 regular season mark.  With its win over Eastern Connecticut, BSU equaled the program record for wins in a season (16). 

            Winning its fourth consecutive game on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over Western Connecticut State University, Southern Maine concluded its regular season with a 9-11 overall record and a 5-6 mark in the conference.  The Huskies grabbed three consecutive Little East Conference wins in that 4-0 stretch to secure their place in the conference tourney, including a 4-3 victory over Fitchburg State and 4-0 win over Worcester State. 

            USM sophomore Peyton Dostie (Standish, Maine/Bonny Eagle) scored six of her team-leading 15 goals during the Huskies' four-game winning streak.  Sixth in the Little East Conference for goals, Dostie is currently tied for fifth in single-season records for goals scored.  Junior Ariel Kaplan (South Berwick, Maine/Marshwood) is the Huskies' second leading scorer with six goals. 

            The Bears are led by Shelby Farland.  Farland is the conference leader in goals and points with 28 goals and 13 assists (69 points).  The Bears have averaged 3.94 goals per game. 

Women's Soccer

By virtue of their 2-1 victory over Rhode Island College on Saturday, the University of Southern Maine Huskies earned the sixth, and final, seed in the 2012 Little East Conference Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

The Huskies will travel to third-seeded Western Connecticut State University on Thursday for a first-round game.  The tournament had been scheduled to start on Tuesday, but was moved back  by the conference because of Hurricane Sandy.  Game time is still to be determined.

The University of Massachusetts Boston and Eastern Connecticut State University earned the top two seeds and first-round byes.  Fourth-seeded Keene State College will host fifth-seeded University of Massachusetts Dartmouth in the other first round game.

The winner of the USM-WCSU game will travel to second-seeded Eastern Connecticut on Friday while the winner of the KSC-UMD heads to top-seeded UMass Boston.  The two semifinal winners will play for the LEC title and an automatic berth in the NCAA tournament on Sunday.
