GORHAM, Maine -- Senior midfielder Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, Maine) of the University of Southern Maine women's soccer team has been named to a spot on the 2010 All-Little East Conference second team following voting by the conference's head coaches. The conference office made the announcement of the all-conference teams and major awards Tuesday afternoon.
A two-year member of the team after transferring to USM from the University of Maine Farmington, Norton had a comeback season this fall after missing half of the 2009 campaign with a knee injury. The Huskies' fifth leading scorer this season, Norton had two goals, including the game winner against St. Joseph's College, and three assists for seven points while starting all 20 matches.
"I'm extremely happy for Chelsea," commented head coach Lisa Petruccelli. "To come back from the knee injury she had and have the type of season she did is a testament to her determination and willingness to do what she needed to return to the form she showed last year before the injury."
During her two years with the Huskies, Norton tallied two goals and dished out six assists in 28 matches.
The Huskies finished the season 5-15-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the conference. They were the fifth seed in the conference tournament.
