GORHAM, Maine -- For the second time this season, University of Southern Maine junior midfielder Heidi DeHaan (Lewiston, Maine) has been selected the Offensive Player of the Week by the Little East Conference. The conference office announced the award Monday afternoon.
DeHaan was honored for her efforts in the Huskies' wins over Framingham State College and LEC rival Rhode Island College. DeHaan previously had been recognized as the conference Offensive Player of the Week on October 5.
In USM's 3-2, double-overtime victory over Framingham State, DeHaan scored two goals, including the game-winning goal in the opening minute of the second, sudden-death period. Her first goal in the 28th minute had put USM ahead 2-1 at the time.
Against Rhode Island College, DeHaan snapped a scoreless stalemate in the 81st minute with a left-footed strike that proved to be the only goal of the match.
The three goals vaulted DeHaan to the top of the Huskies' scoring list. She now has a career-best seven goals, including three game winners, and an assist for 15 points.
Southern Maine, 4-12-0 overall and 2-4-0 in the Little East (tied for 5th), will play Saint Joseph's College on Wednesday (3:00 p.m.) at Windham (Maine) High School.
