Southern Maine Receives IWLCA Academic Honor Squad Designation

Huskies Earn Honor for Second Time in the Last Three Years

            GORHAM, Maine -- The University of Southern Maine women's lacrosse team was among the 339 schools across the nation to receive the IWLCA (Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association) Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad designation for the recently completed 2017-18 academic year.  The complete list was announced Monday and includes schools from all three NCAA divisions and NAIA institutions.

            To earn the Honor Squad designation, a team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.  Southern Maine's 22-member squad, under of the direction of first-year head coach Ashley Durepo, had a combined GPA of 3.052 during the year.

            Members of the team include sophomore Taylor Colangelo (Windham, Maine), freshman Alex Farley (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle), freshman Morgan Eliasen (Lewiston, Maine), junior Colleen Fleming (South Portland, Maine), freshman Kerri Fleming (Berwick, Maine/Noble), freshman Lexii Greene (Portland, Maine/Deering), and freshman Cindy Hoang (Portland, Maine/Deering).

            Also, sophomore Katie Howe (New Boston, N.H./Goffstown), sophomore Melissa Huot (Biddeford, Maine), sophomore Allison Irish (Lyman, Maine/Massabesic), junior Aliza Jordan (Gorham, Maine), freshman Val Kocsis (Higganum, Conn./Haddam-Killingworth), junior Mira Kuni (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic), and freshman Elise LaSlavic (Thomaston, Maine/Oceanside).

            Rounding out the squad were sophomore Ruth Nadeau (Bath, Maine), sophomore Shelby Page (Wallingford, Conn./Lyman Hall), sophomore Savanna Poulin (Augusta, Maine/Cony), sophomore Dorina Sirois (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy), freshman Mariah Vaillancourt (Lewiston, Maine/Edward Little), junior Hala Van Nostrand (Granby, Conn.), sophomore Megan Violette (Portland, Maine/Deering) and junior Miriam Wood (Wakefield, Mass.).

            The Huskies compiled a 9-8 overall record and a 2-4 mark in the Little East Conference during the 2018 season.
