Southern Maine Wins Home Opener Defeating Husson 16-4

PORTLAND, Maine -- Senior midfielder Rosie Forster (Andover, Mass.) had three goals and two assists to lead the University of Southern Maine Huskies to a 16-4 victory over the visiting Husson University Eagles in non-conference women's lacrosse action Tuesday afternoon at frigid Fitzpatrick Stadium.

The win improved the Huskies' overall mark to 2-3.  The Eagles are still winless after five outings.  The game was scheduled to be played at USM's home field in Gorham, Maine, but was moved to Fitzpatrick Stadium due to icy conditions on part of the field.

Sophomore Anh Nguyen (South Portland, Maine) matched Forster in the goal-scoring department with three and also had an assist for a four-point game.  Sophomore Sarah Pelligrinelli (Southington, Conn.) had a goal and a game-high three assists for four points.  Thirteen different Huskies earned a point.

Senior Kim Vogel (Sanford, Maine) and sophomore Caley Presby (Portland, Maine/Deering) split the goalie duties for the Huskies.  Vogel played the first half stopping three shots to earn the win.  Presby had one save in the second half.

Forster had a strong all-around game scooping up eight groundballs and collecting four draw controls.

Sophomore Alissa Fallon (Kennebunk, Maine) had two goals to pace the Eagles offense.  Senior Caitlyn Stauffer (Brookfield, Conn.) picked up a goal and an assist while senior Kim Gambon (Walpole, Mass.) had a goal.  Rookie goalie Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, R.I./Chariho) made eight saves in the Eagle cage, and also picked up five groundballs.  Junior Michaela Bicknell (West Addison, Vt.) had four groundballs and three draw controls for the Eagles.  Junior Hayley Thibeau (Gardiner, Maine) also had four groundballs.

The Huskies opened the game by scoring the first four goals.  Nguyen opened the scoring three and a half minutes into the half.  Forster converted a free-position attempt six minutes in to make it 2-0.  Senior Jacki Kelly (Brunswick, Maine) and Forster tallied goals 12 seconds apart to increase the margin to 4-0.

Fallon got the Eagles on the board with 19:29 remaining in the half.  The Huskies would add goals by Nguyen and freshman Heather Everett (Waterboro, Maine/Massabesic) before the end of the half to take 6-1 lead into intermission.

USM continued to expand its lead in the second half as 10 different players posted goals.

Southern Maine will host the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.).  Husson will open its North Atlantic Conference schedule on Saturday (12:00 p.m.) traveling to Colby-Sawyer College.
