Gamage, Ricker Receive LEC Weekly Honors
GORHAM, Maine -- The Little East Conference announced Monday evening that two members of the University of Southern Maine men's track and field team - junior Drew Gamage (Sabattus, Maine/Oak Hill) and sophomore Jack Ricker (Conway, N.H./Kennett) - have been selected for weekly recognition. Gamage was named the Field Athlete of the Week and Ricker was selected as the Rookie Field Athlete of the Week.
Competing at the annual State of Maine Outdoor Championships, Gamage won the triple jump with a season-best mark of 14.30 meters (46-11) and moved up to fourth in the latest New England Division III rankings (and top 20 nationally). He also tied for fifth in the high jump clearing 1.88m (6-2). Southern Maine finished third among the seven teams competing.
Competing in just his fourth collegiate meet since joining the Huskies' program this spring, Ricker won the high jump clearing 1.88 meters (6-2). Southern Maine finished third among the seven teams competing.
On the strength of the nine top-two finishes, Southern Maine scored 97.50 points to place third in the seven-team field. Bowdoin College took the team title edging out host Bates, 224-213 points. Husson University with 44 points was a distant fourth.
Southern Maine will compete next Saturday (11 a.m.) in the annual New England Alliance and Little East Conference Championships being held at Bridgewater State University.
