Huskies Defeat Colby-Sawyer 7-2

GORHAM, Maine  – The University of Southern Maine Huskies men's tennis team swept the doubles points and cruised to a 7-2 win over the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers in a non-conference men's tennis match Friday evening at the Gorham High School Tennis Courts in Gorham, Maine.

         With its third straight win Southern Maine improves to 4-1 on the season.  The loss halts a two-match win streak for the Chargers and drops their record to 3-9. 

         Junior Adam Whitman (New Castle, N.H./Portsmouth) and freshman Scott Gagne (Lewiston, Maine) led the way for Southern Maine at the first doubles spot.  Whitman and Gagne downed the Colby-Sawyer tandem of junior Reeve Fidler (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable Regional) and freshman Justin Pinard (Essex, Vt./Essex) 8-5.

         In singles action, freshman Zac Cary (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) picked up a key 7-5, 6-0 win over senior Eric Caples (Billerica, Mass.) at sixth singles.

         Southern Maine travels to Thomas College on Tuesday (4:00 p.m.).  Colby-Sawyer travels to Thomas College on Saturday (1:00 p.m.).
