SALEM, Mass. -- The Salem State University men's lacrosse team scored six straight goals over a span of 8:24 in the third and fourth quarters to erase a one-goal deficit and went on to defeat the University of Southern Maine 18-14 in a Little East Conference game Saturday night at Alumni Field.

The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the Vikings, and improved their record to 8-7 overall and 1-6 in conference play.  The Huskies dropped their fourth straight to slide to 5-11 overall and 1-6 in LEC play.  The game was the season finale for both teams as neither qualified for the upcoming six-team LEC tournament that starts next week.

Sophomore Andy Rice (Weymouth, Mass.) led nine Vikings who scored goals with three goals and two assists.  Senior Kyle Dolan (North Andover, Mass.) and rookie Bobby Bourgeois (Billerica, Mass.) each record a hat trick while freshman Ben Melaugh (Billerica, Mass.) had two goals and two assists.

Senior Kyle Baker (Kennebunk, Maine) and junior Steve Ribero (Londonderry, N.H.) each had three goals and two assists for the Huskies.  Senior Kayle Hamilton (Buxton, Maine/Bonny Eagle) and sophomore Dan St. Peter (Windham, Maine) scored two goals apiece.  Senior Zach Blauvelt (Lewiston, Maine) was dominate at the "X" winning 22 of 32 faceoffs.

Each side employed tow goalies in the game.  Freshmen Dominic Rovetto (Newbury, Mass./Triton Regional) and Dylan Svenson (Billerica, Mass.) each made five saves for the Vikings with Svenson getting the win.  Senior Ryan Hatch (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) and freshman Ryan Jurgelevich (Portland, Maine) split the time in the Huskies net.  Hatch had two saves before giving way to Jurgelevich who posted nine stops.

Southern Maine fell behind 10-7 early in the third quarter before going on a 5-1 run to take its only lead of the game 12-11.  Ribero ignited the outburst with an unassisted marker.  Hamilton followed 52 seconds later to pull USM within one, and St. Peter got an equalizer (10-10) with 8:56 to go in the third.

Junior Frank Lento (Salem, Mass.) gave the Vikings an 11-10 advantage, but the Huskies countered with goals from senior Mark White (Oakdale, Ontario) and Hamilton to grab a 12-11 lead with 5:29 left in the third.

Late in the quarter, Dolan sparked the Vikings' run of six consecutive goals.  Rice put the home side up for good with 19 seconds remaining in the third.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings continued to find the net as Dolan and freshman Alex Fiorito (Newbury, Mass./Newburyport) scored before Rice tallied two more goals to increase the Vikings' lead to 17-12 with 8:10 to play.

Ribero and Baker scored 51 seconds apart late in the quarter allowing the Huskies to close within three, but they would not get any closer.
