GORHAM, Maine –  Freshman Manny Alisandro (Manchester, N.H.) notched a doube-double with 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Plymouth State University Panthers to an 80-70 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a Little East Conference men's basketball game Wednesday night at Hill Gym.

            With the win, Plymouth State improves to 6-3 overall and 3-0 in the Little East Conference.  Southern Maine is no 3-4 overall and 1-2 in LEC action.

            Alisandro was one of four Panthers in double-figures shooting 10-for-20 from the field.  His game-high 14 rebounds, helped PSU to a 46-28 advantage on the boards, including a 17-3 lead in the offensive glass. Freshman Bryton Early (Somersworth, N.H.) had 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting, adding four assists, while classmate Dante Rivera (Methuen, Mass.) and senior Jaylen LeRoy (Manchester, N.H.) each had 13 points. LeRoy had nine rebounds and eight assists to narrowly miss on a triple double. 

            Junior Jayvon Pitts-Young (Portland, Maine) led USM with 20 points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.  Senior Grayson Waterman (Berwick, Maine/Noble) had 14 points and four steals, while classmate Christian McCue (Hampden, Maine/Hampden Academy) tossed in 13 points.  Senior Sean Jany (Westbrook, Maine) had a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 12 rebounds.  Jany added four assists and four blocked shots.

            Tied up at 35 heading into the second half after a last second shot from Pitts-Young to close out the first, the game remained nip and tuck midway through the second half.  A jumper from McCue tied the game up at 59 with 7:28 to play, before the Panthers used an 13-2 run over the next five minutes to lead 72-61 with 2:42 to play.  Rivera scored six of his 13 points in the pivotal run for the Panthers.  From there, USM never got closer than nine points the rest of the way.

            Southern Maine hosts Rhode Island College in its next contest on Saturday (3:00 p.m.).  Fans are encouraged to wear their best Ugly Holiday Sweater and take part in the Huskies' Knockout game at halftime for prizes.
