Southern Maine Tied for Fourth After Day 1 at GNAC Championship
Final Round to be Played Tomorrow

            SUTTON, Mass. -- The University of Southern Maine golf team finished the first day of play at the 2018 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship in a tie for fourth place among the nine teams competing.  The 36-hole event is being hosted by Worcester State University at the Blackstone National GC in Sutton, Mass.

            The Huskies posted a four-man score of 321 to trail first-day leader Johnson and Wales University by 13 shots.  Suffolk University is seven shots back at 315, followed by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 319.  Worcester State University is tied with USM at 321.

            Junior Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) posted the best score for USM with a 6-over par 78.  Dundas is in a four-way tie for fifth place.  Starting on the 10th tee, Dundas played his first nine holes 5-over before coming home 1-over on the second nine for his 78.

            Combining with Dundas for the Huskies' team score were senior captain Shaun McKinnon (Rocky Hill, Conn.) who carded an 8-over 80, junior Greg Kalagias (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) with an 81, and junior Ryan Dee (Houlton, Maine) who finished with an 82.

            The individual leader after the first day is Tom Sheran of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth who turned in an even-par round of 72.

            The final round will be played tomorrow.  First group goes off at 8:30 a.m.
