Dundas, Sanderson Receive GNAC Weekly Honors

GORHAM, Maine -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced Tuesday afternoon that University of Southern Maine golfers Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) and Parker Sanderson (Bangor, Maine) have been selected for weekly recognition for their play during the eight-day stretch of October 1-8.

Dundas, a junior, was named the Co-Player of the Week along with St. Joseph's College senior Cam Letourneau.  Sanderson, a senior playing golf for the first time, was tabbed as the Co-Rookie of the Week along with Curtis Merritt of the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.  This is the second time this season that Dundas has been picked as the Golfer of the Week.  Sanderson is earning his first weekly recognition.

Playing this past Sunday and Monday in the USM Fall Classic, Dundas led a second-day comeback by the Huskies "Blue" squad as they charged from third place, and four strokes behind first-day leader Bowdoin College, to win the event.  Dundas, who shot 78 in the opening round, posted the low round of the 36-hole tournament carding a 1-under par 70 on the final day to vault from 13th place to a tie for second place with Letourneau at 148, one shot behind medalist Tom Dunleavy of Bowdoin.

Sanderson played with the Huskies "Gold" team.  He turned in a 2-over par 73 in the opening round to share the 18-hole lead with Dunleavy.  He came back in the final round to post a 77 for a 150 total, and finished in a three-way tie for fifth with Merritt and Adam Hachey of St. Joseph's College.

The Huskies "Blue" squad took the top spot on the team list with a two-day score of 607 after posting a four-man aggregate score of 297 in the final round.  UMass Dartmouth edged first-day leader Bowdoin by one shot, 616-617, for the runner-up spot.  St. Joseph's was fourth in the eight-team field at 619.

Southern Maine's next event will be the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championship this Saturday and Sunday, hosted by Worcester State University at the Blackstone National GC in Sutton, Mass.
