Tuesday's Thomas Invitational Postponed Until October 10
GORHAM, Maine -- The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) announced today that University of Southern Maine junior Tristan Dundas (Abbotsford, B.C.) has been named the Golfer of the Week for the week ending September 9. This is the first weekly GNAC award for Dundas.
Competing at the two-day Bowdoin College Invitational this past weekend, Dundas won the 36-hole event with an even par score of 144.
An All-GNAC player last fall, Dundas carded a 2-over par 74 in Sunday's final round at the Brunswick CC to go along with his opening-round score of 2-under par 70. Dundas is the first USM player to win the tournament since Tom Murray took low medalist honors in 2013.
Dundas, who finished his first round with five consecutive birdies, got to 3-under par for the tournament on the second day with a birdie on the third hole, but a string of three consecutive bogeys to close the front nine left him at even par at the turn. A bogey at the 13th push him to 1-over, but he regained that stroke with a birdie on the 16th for the second straight day. Over the two rounds, Dundas played the final five holes (14 through 18) in 6-under par.
The Huskies finished sixth among the 12 teams in the final standings with a two-day score of 621 (308-313).
The Huskies were scheduled to travel to the Waterville CC tomorrow to play in the Thomas College Invitational, but that event has been postponed due to the weather forecast. The event has been rescheduled for October 10.
The next event for USM is the State Intercollegiate Championship this coming Saturday and Sunday (September 15-16) at Bangor Municipal.
