GORHAM, Maine  - The University of Southern Maine Huskies Department of Athletics and the Division of Student Life will host a day filled with Huskies’ athletic contests, tailgating, face painting, t-shirt tosses and prizes on Saturday, November 1 as part of Husky Palooza: Champ’s Excellent Adventure.

With six home games on tap, there will be plenty of action for Huskies’ fans throughout the day.  Huskies’ field hockey and women’s soccer will celebrate their senior games and host a Little East Conference doubleheader on the Hannaford Turf Field.  Field hockey will host Fitchburg State at 12:00 p.m. and the women’s soccer team will host Keene State at 2:30 p.m.  Huskies’ volleyball will be hosting UMass Dartmouth and Saint Joseph’s College (Maine) in a tri-match in Hill Gymnasium.  USM will face UMass Dartmouth at 12:00 p.m. and then play Saint Joseph’s at 4:00 p.m.

The first puck of the 2014-2015 season will drop at home in the USM Ice Arena as the Huskies’ men’s ice hockey team will take on Stonehill College at 4:00 p.m. in their season-opener.  And last, but not least, Southern Maine men’s basketball will host an exhibition game against the Division I UMaine Black Bears with a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

With the numerous Huskies’ games, Aramark, USM Athletics and Student Life have arranged for tailgating at the Hannaford Field from 11:30 – 2:30 p.m. Along with traditional tailgate fare, be sure to grab a special Whoopie Paw (a whoopie pie in the shape of a Husky paw).  At the conclusion of the women’s soccer game on the Hannaford Field turf the celebration will move towards the Costello Sports Complex where the tailgating will continue from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. to help usher in the events at Hill Gymnasium and the USM Ice Arena.

Along with the tailgating and game-time activities, fans will be able to participate in a raffle to win a tablet at both the men’s ice hockey and basketball games as well as a FitBit, generously donated by the Campus Computer Store.  Several door prizes will also be awarded at both the men’s basketball and ice hockey games.  During halftime of the men’s basketball game, fans will be able to enjoy a performance by the USM Dance team as well as register for a chance to win $100 with a half-court shot during the Husky Heave Contest.
